Smoothing Treatments Boston

Three Ways We Customize Smoothing Results

We offer three clearly defined options based on outcome, so your results are predictable, not a surprise.

I'm Franny Flynn. I own Brazilian Blowout Boston, a private studio in Quincy, MA, where smoothing treatments are the only thing we do. After 10,000+ treatments since 2009, I have seen what works and what doesn't.

You're probably not confused about whether you want smoother hair. You're confused about what result you'll actually get.

"I tried a smoothing treatment and it didn't work on my hair."

I hear this a lot. Sometimes the treatment worked exactly as designed. Sometimes it wasn't performed correctly. And very often, the difference between systems was never explained, so expectations didn't match the outcome.

This page exists to fix that.

What We Consider Before Your Treatment

We don't treat smoothing as one thing. We work with three different outcome-based products. Before we recommend anything, we look at:

  • Your natural texture
  • How much curl you want to keep
  • How smooth you want to go
  • How often you want to maintain it

Most of the time, we're softening curl pattern, delivering frizz reduction Boston humidity can't bully, and improving how the hair behaves day to day.

Two Ways Smoothing Treatments Work

Internal vs. Coating

Internal-based treatments use smaller molecules that work inside the hair to fill in weak areas and improve condition. Your hair stays light, soft, and natural, with frizz reduction and soft curl softening.

Cuticle-sealing (coating-based) treatments work from the outside, creating the most dramatic finish and the longest wear.

Both smooth hair. They just do it differently.

Option 1. Internal-Based

Full Curl Control

This is for clients who want curls that behave but still bounce. You keep your curl pattern fully intact, while we reduce bulk, puff, and halo frizz.

  • Full curl retention
  • More curl definition
  • Frizz and bulk control
  • Shine from surface realignment, not coating
  • No harsh grow-out line

Maintenance: Every 3 to 4 months to maintain and build on previous treatments. This is a permanent treatment that grows out with new hair.

Option 2. Internal-Based

Frizz Reduction + Light Curl Softening

Love your volume but hate the frizz? This is our clean beauty favorite, the best of both. Smoother hair that still moves and feels natural.

  • Frizz reduction with subtle curl softening
  • Shine from surface realignment, not coating
  • No downtime
  • Can be stacked for cumulative results

This option leaves your hair strong, healthy, and more conditioned with every treatment.

Longevity: About 12 weeks with proper maintenance.

Option 3. Cuticle-Sealing

Maximum Smoothing

Our most dramatic smoothing option. Uses a proprietary blend to seal and smooth the cuticle, for a finish that goes further than our internal-based options can.

  • Maximum smoothness and high shine
  • Strongest curl reduction potential
  • Longest wear of our smoothing options
  • Can be performed over previously treated hair for stronger results

Important: Requires a 72-hour wait to wash. Results last up to 5 months.

If you're choosing between options and want the smoothest, sleekest result that lasts, this is it.

How Often Should You Come In?

Most clients come three to four times per year depending on the treatment. Some prefer a softer finish and come less often.

If you love how your hair feels in the first few weeks, you'll likely want to maintain it more often. If you like it better once some texture returns, spacing it out makes sense.

All of our treatments fade naturally. There's no harsh grow-out line. You can stop at any time and your hair returns to baseline over time.

A Note on Henna

These smoothing treatments cannot be safely performed over henna-treated hair. Please disclose any henna use during your consultation so we can assess what options are available to you.

How We Choose

We Match the Treatment to the Outcome

During your consultation, we look at texture, density, curl pattern, previous chemical work, how smooth you want to go, and what maintenance fits your real life.

New clients start with a phone conversation. We'll talk through your hair, your history, and what to expect, so your first appointment goes exactly as planned.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between internal-based and coating-based treatments?

Internal-based treatments use smaller molecules that work inside the hair shaft to fill in weak areas, reduce frizz, and improve condition. They leave hair soft and light with natural movement. Coating-based treatments smooth from the outside, creating a more dramatic finish with stronger curl reduction and longer wear, up to 5 months.

Will a smoothing treatment keep my curls?

It depends on the option you choose. Our internal-based treatments can be customized to keep your curl fully intact while eliminating frizz and bulk, or to soften your curl pattern slightly. Our cuticle-sealing option offers the most dramatic smoothing. During your consultation, we choose based on how much curl you want to retain.

How long do smoothing treatments last?

Results vary by treatment. Our internal-based options last approximately 12 weeks with proper maintenance. Our cuticle-sealing option lasts up to 5 months. All treatments fade naturally, there is no harsh grow-out line, and your hair returns to its baseline over time.

Can I get a smoothing treatment over henna?

No. These smoothing treatments cannot be safely performed over henna-treated hair. If you have used henna, please disclose this during your consultation so we can assess what options are available to you.

How often do I need to come in for maintenance?

Most clients come in three to four times per year depending on the treatment. If you love how your hair feels in the first few weeks, you will likely want to maintain it more often. If you prefer some texture to return before retreating, spacing it out makes sense. All treatments fade naturally with no harsh grow-out line.
